Knowledge Management Systems: Potentials and Challenges
The Jerusalem Virtual Library – A Case Study

Jerusalem Virtual Library is a joint project between Al  Quds University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Using Cambridge Research Technology’s Open Shelf Product, material from Israeli and Palestinian archives and collections has been brought together in digital format.

The poster will comprise:

  1. A discussion of some of the potentials and challenges of electronic libraries, in particular, looking at organised collections of multimedia material forming a database driven web site.
  2. A look at how some of the challenges have been addressed with examples from the Jerusalem Virtual Library project, for example; multilingual indexing, handling bibliographic information and the indexing of maps and illustrations.
  3. An analysis of some issues related to manual indexing versus automatic indexing. The academic challenges and software developed in response to these needs.
  4. A look at some of the other knowledge based projects developed by Cambridge Research Technology
