Six Million Accusers: The State of Israel V. Adolf Eichman Aya Ben Naftali ayabn@netvision.net.il Six Million Accusers: The State of Israel v. Adolf Eichmann is an active exhibition at Massuah - Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, that combines an audiovisual documentary display with an interactive, computerized multimedia system. The exhibition focuses on the Holocaust from the perspective of the Eichmann trial, as elicited by testimonies and evidence presented at the trial, which took place in Jerusalem in 1961–1962. At the focus of the exhibition are over 150 excerpts of filmed testimonies by the 101 witnesses—Holocaust victims—who testified at the trial. By means of the testimonies, the exhibition aspires to give young people a better understanding of what happened during the Holocaust, to expose them to the human dilemmas that people faced at that time, and to enable them to examine the relevance of these subjects for their lives and identities today. Interactive Multimedia System
The computerized multimidia system is loaded with a broad database that allows users to expand on Holocaust events and delve more deeply into the personal and moral aspects of the period. The system is based on over 150 excerpts of testimonies that are sorted into subject-based clusters (between five to seven excerpts, lasting one or two minutes each). It provides multiple avenues of research on chosen topics, through access to thousands of photographs, documents, and complementary sources of information. Visitors enter the program by selecting a field of interest and a personal testimony to introduce their research project. Hypertext makes it possible for visitors to choose the level of detail they want. After they have completed the research project, the main assignment for the visitors is to develop a presentation based on an excerpt of testimony from the database. In the course of this presentation, participants will raise an argument or fundamental question for discussion with the full group in the “courtroom.” Massuah - Institute for the Study of the Holocaust is an international Holocaust teaching institute. In its thirty years, Massuah has done much to establish and instill a unique educational concept in teaching the Holocaust and to develop a wide variety of original teaching methods, including the an Interactive museum.
