Description:

A joint project of The Jewish National and University Library, David and Fela Shapell Family Digitization Project and The Hebrew University, Department of Geography, Historic Cities Research Project

This project, based on the Eran Laor Cartographic Collection at the JNUL, contains over 260 maps of Jerusalem, both real and imaginary, dating from 1486 through 1930.

The maps are arranged both chronologically and by persons (cartographers, engravers, etc.)

Each map is accompanied by full bibliographic data.

The site also contains a comprehensive introduction and links to related sites.

In the Virtual Exhibit, maps can be 'strolled' while pop-up captions identify specific sites.

Technical information:

A variety of source material formats -very large to small maps, and maps within bound volumes

High quality TIFF master files were either scanned from the original using i2S-Digibook book scanner or scanned from 35mm negative/ 4"x5" slides.
